Senator declares interest in MCA position

A sitting Senator has declared her bid to contest for a lower seat.

Nominated Senator Godliver Otieno has expressed interest in contesting for the position of a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kakamega County.

The MCAs post is the lowest elective position in the Kenya’s electoral system.

The ODM Senator, 45, says she has no interest in going back to the Senate next year and will instead focus on the lower post which attracts less privileges compared to the one she currently holds.

Ms Otieno says she is a dedicated Christian and that she is obeying God’s directions to serve Kenyans at the grassroots level.

“There are those who think that I am insane, but I want to assure them that I have never been more sober. I am just obeying God’s directions,” says the Senator who intends to vie for Kholela Ward seat in Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County.

The nominated Senator, representing people with disability, says after serving in the Senate for four years now, she has realized that it would be easier to solve problems facing the people she represents at the grassroots level, as opposed to being in the Senate.

“I was nominated to be a Senator but now I want to grow from down up. I want to be elected right from the grassroots,” she said, quoting Bible verses to support her sentiments that she is God chosen.

And considering the Senate has more privileges and more powers, Ms Otieno says she is not after money but serving Kenyans.

The Senator is the first to make such a declaration with most of her colleagues opting to go for the governorship post.
