Senator Kivuti ‘hijacking’ Jubilee party – Embu leaders

Jubilee leaders from the larger Embu County have accused Senator Lenny Kivuti of ‘hijacking’ the party and running it as a personal entity.

Led by Runyenjes Member of Parliament, Cecily Mbarire, and County Assembly Speaker, Kariuki Mate, the leaders said that Senator Kivuti has personalized the party to the extent of holding party meetings at his home in Kanyuambora instead of a neutral place where every aspirant can attend.

Mbarire said that Jubilee Party is not a personal entity to be run by a single candidate and thus all the leaders seeking to join it should be included in the normal running of the new political outfit.

She noted that the party belongs to all the residents of Embu County and thus it should be run fairly so that there can be free and fair nominations for aspiring leaders wishing to vie under jubilee.

On his part, Speaker Kariuki Mate dismissed efforts by a section of leaders who are drumming support for Jubilee saying that the new political outfit is people driven and not for private purposes.

Senator Kivuti has recently fallen out with some elected leaders in the county after reports emerged that he is planning to run for the Embu gubernatorial seat against an earlier agreement that he would support Runyenjes Legislator Cecily Mbarire for the seat.

Asked whether he will run for the seat, Kivuti remained non-committal saying that he is waiting for advice from the people of Embu.

He said that he will decide whether to defend his senatorial seat or run for governorship, based on advice from the electorates.
