Senator Sonko, CJ Mutunga mourn departed news anchor

Nairobi Senator Mike ‘Sonko’ and Chief Justice Dr. Willy Mutunga are some of the leaders that have paid glowing tribute to the departed KTN news anchor Ahmed Darwesh.

In his Facebook post, Sonko described Darwesh as a great man, a friend and a pure-hearted man whom Kenyans loved and admired.

“My tears are flowing for a friend, a great man. During this sorrowful time, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the media fraternity and friends of Ahmed Darwesh,” he stated.

“Darwesh was more than a friend to me, a friend who defined brotherhood. He was so clean at heart and rose through his career through sheer will and hard work.”

Sonko said Darwesh’s advise helped him shape his political career adding that his eloquence in Swahili will be missed.

“Darwesh’s advise guided my political career. I remember the interview I did with him in 2013 when I was contesting for the Nairobi Senatorial seat. Darwesh with his Swahili will be missed. He was loved by all of us and he will be cherished in our memories forever.”

Chief Justice Mutunga posted on his twitter account: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”

Citizen TV’s News Editor Yusuf Ali Lakicha condoled with the family for the loss and thanked all those who have offered their support during this difficult time.

Media personalities including Saddique Shaban, Maina Kageni, and Larry Madowo also paid their tributes to the departed news anchor.

Darwesh was found dead in his home in South B Monday night after a long battle with diabetes.

His friends said the celebrated news anchor had tried to reach his wife and a taxi driver for help before his death.

Darwesh’s body left Wilson Airport early Tuesday for Mombasa for burial.

He will be buried Tuesday evening at Kikoani Cemetery in Mombasa.
