Senator’s fight for people living with disability

Nominated senator Godliver Omondi has raised concern over the continued discrimination of the physically challenged in the delivery of services by several county governments.

Speaking at the Embu County assembly, the nominated senator who represents the disabled in the senate, accused governors over what she claims to be their lack of putting enough effort into making their services accessible to the disabled.

The Embu County Assembly offices offered the perfect stage where nominated senator Godliver Omondi could raise her concerns about the plight of people with disabilities in the country.

According to the senator, over 32 county government offices lack access facilities meant for people with disabilities.

“I want to use Embu County as a role model as far as disability and accessibility is concerned. Many of our counties where I have visited many disabled have been left outside because accessibility to the offices is questionable,” noted Omondi.

Being a victim of the same challenges many persons with disability have to endure, Senator Godliver Omondi strongly accused most of the governors for allegedly discriminating against the disabled.

“You will find the offices of the governor offices in the 2nd or 4th floor. Devolution came to bring services closer to the people and disabled are also included but most of them do not get them, that is going against the constitution,” stated Omondi.

As a member of the national cohesion and equal opportunity committee, she vowed to use the opportunity and ensure that county governments provide services to all freely and fairly.

The nominated senator has meanwhile hailed Embu County and urged all county governors to use it as an example to ensure their county assembly structures allow access to the facility by all.
