Officer at Sheria House charged with receiving Ksh.2500 bribe

A senior clerical officer stationed at Sheria House was on Wednesday charged with receiving a bribe.

Ya’qub Abubakar Omar was charged that on September 10, 2019, he requested for Ksh. 2,500 from one Calistus Wilunda.

It is alleged that this was the amount he asked for to release a birth certificate for Mr. Wilunda’s daughter.

The incident is said to have occurred at his station in the Civil Litigation Department.

In the second count, he was charged with receiving the said amount on September 11, 2019 .

He however pleaded not guilty before Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti.

Omar was released on a cash bail of Ksh. 100,000.

The case will be mentioned on May 25, 2021.
