Sensitise youth about HIV/AIDS – NACC to churches

The National Aids Control Council (NACC) has called on religious leaders to aid in reducing the number of new HIV/AIDS infections among the youth during the holiday season.

Speaking during the launch of faith sector response to HIV/AIDS in Kenya on November 14th, the NACC director Dr. Nduku Kilonzo said the church wielded a lot of influence on the country – influence that they could use to combat the disease.
“Throughout the session, we have activities and engagements to allow young people know about their HIV status,” said the NACC director, Nduku Kilonzo.

Kilonzo also urged religious leaders and faith institutions to speak against discrimination to help reduce stigmatisation.

The Kenya health policy document cites HIV and AIDS as the leading cause of death in the country at 29.3% with a decline in prevalence from 14.1% in 1990 to 6% recorded in 2015.
