Seven charged for being in possession of illicit brew

Seven residents of Kaare location in Tharaka Nithi County were on Wednesday charged at the Chuka High Court after being found with 460 litters of illicit liquor contrary to Section 7(1) ( b)  and Section (62) of Alcoholic Drinks Control Act of 2010.

Appearing before the Principal Magistrate, Alfred Kibiru, the accused persons, Ephantus Mugendi, Morris Munene, Daniel Mugendi, Solomon Mugambi, Basilio Mwitari, Patrick Gitonga, and Erick Murithi Kiruja were allegedly arrested with 80 litres, 40 litres, 60 litres, 80 litres, 50 litres, 90 litres, and 60 litres of the illegal brew respectively.

The seven were nabbed with the liquor, popularly known as Mugacha on 6^th June 2016 at Kaare location in Maara sub county.

The accused pleaded guilty and were released on fines of between Ksh 20,000 and Ksh 25,000 each.
