7 KDF soldiers killed in Dhobley near Kenya-Somalia border

At least seven Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers were killed on Sunday evening after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device in the border town of Dhobley in Somalia.

Two other soldiers sustained serious injuries during the incident that occurred as the officers conducted their routine night patrols.

The landmine suspected to have been laid by Al Shabaab militants extensively damaged the soldiers vehicle which was part of a convoy but was the only one damaged in the massive explosion.

The injured soldiers were air lifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

The Department of Defence is currently waiting for a bomb damage assessment report from officers on the ground before issuing an official statement on the attack.

The attack bears the hallmarks of the Al Shabaab militia, although the terror outfit is yet to claim responsibility for the explosion.
