Seven people killed in Kilifi road accident

Seven people lost their lives on Saturday after two matatus were involved in a head on collision at Mavueni in Kilifi County.

Six other people were injured in the accident and have been admitted at the Mombasa Hospital for treatment, according to Kilifi County Health Officer Mrs Rachael Musyoki.

Musyoki said that those in hospital are responding well to treatment, noting that they will be discharged once the doctors are satisfied with their progress.

Meanwhile, three people died on the spot after two motorbikes collided at Kangu area along the Embu-Mwea highway in Kirinyaga County.

One of the motorbikes was on its way from Embu to Mwea while the other was travelling in the opposite direction when the accident occurred.

The motorbike from Mwea attempted to overtake a lorry before colliding with the other motorbike that had a passenger on board.

Traffic police officers arrived at the scene and towed the wreckage to Wanguru traffic base.

The bodies of those who perished were taken to Kibugi mortuary.

The area has been marked as a black spot due to the high number of accidents that are witnessed with residents urging the national transport and safety authority to erect bumps along the stretch.
