Seven suspected gangsters shot dead in Molo

Seven suspected gangsters were gunned down by police at Kibunja trading centre in Molo, Nakuru County on Wednesday morning.

The suspects were waylaid as they drove towards Eldoret in two vehicles; a Toyota Fielder and Toyota Prado, which they are believed to have been using to carry out their criminal activities.

According to the police, the seven were part of a ten-man gang believed to be behind a spate of highway robberies between Burnt forest and Salgaa.

The officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had reportedly been trailing the suspects from Kayole in Nairobi.

Molo OCPD Daniel Kamanza said three of the suspects managed to escape towards Molo town through Kibunja forest.

Four suspects were gunned down at Kibunja trading centre while the other three were gunned down 50 metres away as they drove towards Eldoret.

At the crime scene, police recovered an AK47 rifle, three pistols; two of which are homemade, 10 rounds of ammunition, two police radios, a pair of handcuffs and documents belonging to the suspects.

The two vehicles that were being used by the suspects were taken to Molo Police Station as police seek to ascertain if they belonged to the gang or had been hired.

Bodies of the felled suspects were moved to Molo Sub-county Hospital Mortuary as a hunt for the trio that escaped continued.

Traders from Molo said they have in the recent past been attacked by armed robbers, with the recent incident being an attack that occurred at Casino trading centre in Molo town on Tuesday, February 13.
