Several arrested, illicit brew confiscated in alcohol dens raid

Security agencies in Nyahururu, Nyandarua County have intensified the fight against the manufacture and sale of illicit brews in the area with several people being arrested and thousands of liters of busaa, chang’aa and kangara brews impounded.

On Sunday, two operations saw several people arrested as police officers from both the Regular and Administration units stepped up raids on illicit brew dens in the area.

In Nyandarua Central, 1,000 liters of kangara, 200 liters of busaa and 150 liters of chang’aa were impounded in an early morning raid led by Nyandarua County Police Commander Hamisi Mambeya and Nyandarua Central OCPD Wilson Kosgei within Bahati area of Rurii location.

Six suspects, among them two women and four men, were arrested in connection with the manufacturing of the illicit brews and taken to Ol-Kalou Police Station and will be arraigned in court on Monday.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Mambeya said police acted on a tip-off from members of the public before storming villages where most of illicit brews were found hidden in plantations.

Mambeya said the operation will continue and called on members of the public to continue assisting the security officers with crucial information that could help nab more operators.
