Several passengers under probe over Air France bomb scare  CS Nkaissery

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has said that several passengers, who were on board Air France plane which made an emergency landing at the Moi International Airport on Sunday, were being questioned over the bomb scare.

Nkaissery said that bomb experts in Kenya were working with their counterparts from Mauritius and France to determine whether or not the suspicious device found in the plane’s lavatory was a bomb.

The bomb scare prompted the plane to land at the airport at 12:30am on Sunday.

All the 459 passengers and 14 crew members who were on board the plane were safety evacuated upon landing as and they await another flight from France.

The CS has also assured Kenyans of their safety as well as those using the country’s airports, adding that the Air France issue is being handled by international experts.

The Boeing 777 requested the airport’s Mombasa Towers for emergency landing after a passenger noticed a suspicious device in the lavatory and informed the Captain.

According to an update on Inspector General Joseph Boinnet’s Twitter page, the plane landed safety at the airport where the passengers were safely evacuated.

“It requested an emergency landing when a device suspected to be an explosive was discovered in the lavatory,” Police Spokesman Charles Owino said.

The airport has since been reopened and normal flights resumed.
