Several wounded, two arrested for axe attack in Dusseldorf

At least six people got wounded as a man attacked them with an axe at the main train station on Thursday in Dusseldorf in West Germany, according to police sources.

Local police have detained two in relation to the incident described by German federal police as “amok attack.” But police have withheld the identities and motives of the suspected attackers.

Eyewitnesses have described the scene to German newspaper Bild as one attacker standing out of the crowd and beginning to wield his axe at people around him.

Police deployed in and around the Dusseldorf train station have searched for potential attackers. The station was closed down when the police operation was on.

German railway company Deutsche Bahn said via social media that train services at Dusseldorf Hbf station were currently suspended, reminding travelers to look for alternatives or to postpone their trips.

A July 2016 axe attack had wounded several passengers on a train in southern Germany.
