Sewage Effluent Threaten Health of Nakuru Residents

Sewage Effluent Threaten Health of Nakuru Residents

The situation has been occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains. A spot check at the estate showed that raw sewerage had spilled into more than five houses forcing residents to seek refuge from neighbours whose houses are on raised grounds.

Residents are now accusing the county government of Nakuru of doing little to carry out routine maintenance of sewer lines and water pipes which are in contact with the raw sewer.

According to Pauline Mutahi, a resident, efforts to seek the help of Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company workers to unblock one of the sewer lines has bore no fruits.

Currently, most of the rain water is draining into Nakuru town leaving it in a bad situation resulting in traffic snarl ups and blockage.

The residents say despite the fact that the infrastructure docket of the county government getting the lion’s share of the county budget.
