Sex worker gets five hours for stealing clients phone

A middle-aged woman admitted before a court to have taken from a man a mobile phone worth Ksh 10,000 when the man refused to pay for ‘special’ services in a lodging, an admission that stunned the court.

The woman, who confidently told the court that she is a sex worker and that on the material day the man who, to her, seemed reputable refused to pay for an early morning service at a Nairobi lodging and so she decided to runaway with the phone as a pay to herself.

The woman, Lilian Njokoa Ngota, is alleged to have stolen a mobile phone belonging to Joseph Gitonga Mwenda on December 21, 2016 at Rekemarie Bar and Restaurant along Tsavo Road within Nairobi County.

The phone was recovered after it was tracked and found in possession of Ms Njokoa at Githurai by police officers.

She appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate, Francis Andayi, who was taken by surprise how bold the lady was to confess what really had happened.

“In this case, I like the fact that all parties are confident, the man-complainant in this matter had courage to report to police and have the phone tracked months later after the incident. If it was in the village, the man could have even gotten an excuse to explain to his wife that perhaps the phone got lost,” the Magistrate cracked a joke.

The lady was convicted on her own plea of guilty to serve in community work for five hours before going home.
