Sex Workers, Changaa Dealers Jailed

The accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them and were fined Ksh 270,000

They were fined Ksh 30,000 each or be jailed for two months.

All of them sex workers were accused of loitering in town with the intent of committing immoral deeds.

All of them were however unable to raise the fine at the time and were sent to jail.

The chang'aa brewers on the other hand were found guilty of being in possession of illegal brew

They were convicted by Thika Chief Magistrate Stephen Mbuingi.

One suspect found with the illegal brew, a Mr. Nungari was fined Kshs. 100,000 or serve a one year jail term for being in possession of 90 litres of the brew.

Another convict John Njoroge was found with 30 litres of the brew and was fined Kshs. 50,000 or be jailed for 6 months.

Francis Njenga Ngugi, Patrick Macharia and Dominic Muturi on the other hand were found with 20 litres and were fined Kshs. 30,000 or 4 months imprisonment.

The prosecutor Nancy Muthuri had called for a deterrent sentence saying brewing, sale and consumption of illicit brew had reached fever pitch leading to deaths in some cases.
