Sh1.2b Sigiri Bridge in Budalangi collapses

A section of the Sigiri bridge in Budalangi, Busia County has collapsed 11 days after its construction was inspected by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Ten construction workers  who were at the site during the collapse have been admitted to the nearby Port Victoria Hospital after sustaining minor injuries.

It is not clear what caused the collapse last night, with residents waking up to find one raised section on the ground and with officials yet to issue any statement on the incident.

President Kenyatta  nd DP Ruto inspected the bridge on June 15th this year accompanied by local MP Ababu Namwamba when the Head of State assured Budalang’i residents the project would be completed by mid-July.

The Jubilee Party leader also intimated that the Sigiri bridge would significantly reduce deaths and make it easier for area residents to access markets, schools and hospitals.
