Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials have joined political leaders in calling for speedy investigations into the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
This is after reports emerged that several suspects implicated in the murder of the Rongo University student are set to be arraigned in a Homa Bay court next week.
Speaking in Itierio, Kisii County, during the burial ceremony of Mama Sibia Bitutu, the mother of local KNUT official George Masagara, the KNUT leaders condemned Sharon’s killers, urging police to bring them to justice.
“The person behind it must be arrested and prosecuted,” said KNUT National Treasurer John Matiang’i.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Sunday, Homa Bay County Woman Representative Gladys Wanga termed Sharon’s killing as “murder most foul,” further stating that the deceased will not be buried until her killers are brought to book.
“The biggest cry I have heard today from Sharon’s mother, father and relatives is that they want justice,” said Wanga.
“We want the big fish, we don’t want games. We have heard that some suspects will be arraigned… but until the real people are arraigned, it is then that we will know that the DCI is serious.”
Migori County Woman Representative Dr. Pamela Odhiambo, on her part, said: “We want to see the people responsible for this murder in court and the very person on whose behalf they were acting.”
Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has since called for patience, saying that anybody found guilty of the murder will face justice regardless of their societal status.
