Sharon Otieno burial to cost Ksh.1M, funeral team says

Slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno will be buried on October 19 in Homa Bay Town.

According to the funeral committee chairman Elijah Opiyo, burial expenses will cost over Ksh.1million.

Last month, the family had vowed not to bury Sharon until her killers were arrested and prosecuted.

The seven-month old foetus that was also killed in the gruesome murder was however buried three weeks ago.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has since confirmed that he had a romantic relationship with the deceased and the baby was his.

The Governor however maintains that he had nothing to do with the murder.

On October 18, the cortege is expected to leave the mortuary at Kirindo Hospital in Mbita.

The funeral will be held the following day at the grandfather’s home in Magare Village, Kanyabala location.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Opiyo noted that the burial committee has held several meetings to ensure she is given a decent sendoff.

He added that they are expecting a high number of visitors following the gruesome murder of Sharon Otieno.

“We have not hit the target to cater for the burial expenses and we are appealing to well-wishers to assist us,” Opiyo said.

Migori Governor and his co-accused Michael Oyamo are still in police custody as investigations continue.
