Sharon Otieno murder: Governor Obado to undergo DNA test

Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to undergo DNA tests as detectives seek to ascertain whether he has any connection with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Carrying white boxes and donning white lab coats, detectives from the homicide section and officers from the government chemist were on Tuesday afternoon spotted making their way into the Nyanza Regional DCI headquarters in Kisumu, where Governor Obado was being grilled.

The Migori Governor presented himself at the DCI headquarters in Kisumu at around 9am on Tuesday upon summoning by the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti.

Mr. Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo, a key suspect in the murder probe, also underwent DNA testing while in custody at the Oyugis Police Station.

The DNA sampling is said to be part of police investigations to establish whose unborn infant Sharon was carrying, when she was killed after being abducted together with Nation journalist Barrack Oduor in Homa Bay County.

The Governor, his personal assistant and journalist Oduor are all at the Kisumu DCI headquarters where the probe is undergoing.

Last week, the government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed that Sharon was stabbed eight times and died from excessive bleeding.

Dr. Oduor also confirmed reports from homicide detectives that the unborn baby also had stab wounds.

“Sharon was stabbed three times on the neck, four times on the back and on the left side of the abdomen,” he told journalists after concluding the autopsy on Friday.

Dr. Oduor further noted that Sharon Otieno had several other bruises indicating there was a struggle before she was killed.

Detectives earlier revealed that several used condoms were found at the scene of the crime meaning that her attackers raped her before the killing.
