Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta has urged the public to maintain patience and give investigators time to conclude their probe into the murder of Sharon Otieno.

Speaking to journalists at Kisumu Central Police Station where his client was grilled for the better part of Tuesday, Ombeta said that political leaders who have been calling for the arrest of Governor Obado are negatively influencing the investigations.

He maintained that his client willfully presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) offices in Kisumu after being summoned, adding that he was interrogated and gave his part of the story regarding the death of the Rongo University student.

“It had reached a point where people were asking whether Governor Obado would come forward and say something but he wouldn’t come out and just join the people who were making noise in funerals and all such places,” said Ombeta.

“He had to wait to be summoned… he has been summoned and he has written his statement, and he does not want any more speculation beyond this on what he has said and what he has recorded.”

The lawyer further insisted that his client was innocent, adding that investigative agencies involved in the probe like the DCI should be given space to bring the right culprit to book.

“He (Governor Obado) was not involved in this murder and that is why we are asking that patience must be there…people must be sober so that investigations go on without any influence because like right now when people go to rallies and start saying that somebody must be arrested, you are influencing the mind of persons who are investigating,” he stated.

The Migori County boss was in the evening whisked away in a police car to the Kisumu International Airport from where he flew to Nairobi.

Journalist Barack Oduor and Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo were also taken to the airport in different vehicles belonging to the police.
