Shebesh: Ida Odinga responsible for Uhuru-Raila handshake

Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Rachel Shebesh has now credited Ida Odinga for being the defining factor in the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The CAS, in an undated video obtained by Citizen Digital, alluded that the Head of State and the former Prime Minister were being given too much credit by Kenyans over their now famous peace initiative.

“We’re giving too much credit to Uhuru and Raila, I want to tell you the truth today. The handshake between Uhuru and Raila came from Mama Ida,” said Shebesh.

“Because Uhuru told me that if it was not for Mama Ida, he would not have sat down with Raila and he (Raila) would not have listened to him because the tension was high.”

The former Nairobi Women Representative further lauded the March 9, 2018 handshake saying it had helped bring peace and stability to the country.

She also criticized a section of politicians who have openly voiced negative opinions about it urging Kenyans to “leave them alone because they’re being paid.”

“I am happy that I can now go to Gem and Khwisero and Kisumu without fear, I would not have passed there before (the handshake),” said Shebesh.
