Shock as lone gunman robs busy Tuskys supermarket

Police are probing theft of an estimated Ksh1 million from at a city supermarket carried out by a lone gunman in Nairobi last evening.

The gunman who police suspect has mastered the supermarket’s operation accosted the store’s chief cashier as he collected the day’s sales from his juniors.

“The gunman tried to grab the cash from the chief cashier as he was collecting the cash. The chief cashier tried to resist but the man shot in the air, scaring the cashier,” said one cashier.

The ensuing commotion saw customers scamper for safety as the lone gunman took advantage of the situation to escape.

“He wore a dust coat and escaped with the people who were leaving,” he said.

In a bid to trap the gunman, officers from central police station placed Latema road in downtown Nairobi under lockdown, screening every single person in and out.

According to eye witnesses, the theft was carried out with precision and lasted under ten minutes. It is estimated that the gunman made away a Ksh1 million, the day’s collection.

Currently, detectives are probing CCTV footage to try and identify the suspect.

Tuskys supermarket is yet to officially comment on the daring early evening robbery at one of its busiest branches in Nairobi.
