Shock as Nakuru pastor lures 18 pupils into watching porn

A 45-year-old man from Nakuru County – said to be a pastor at a local church – has been arrested after shocking details emerged that he has been luring pupils from Lenana Primary School into watching pornographic films before asking the pupils to practice what they watched on a mentally-ill woman.

Parents of pupils at Lenana Primary School were shocked and upset by the discovery.

In an impromptu parents’ meeting convened Thursday, May 18, at the school, several parents could not help but weep in disbelief when the head teacher broke the sad news to them.

The suspect, Tom Mshindi, better known to locals as Juma, was arrested by officers from Nakuru Central Police Station on Wednesday, May 17, in his house at Railway Line estate – near Nakuru Level 5 Hospital – where he was allegedly showing the porn films to the pupils.

One of the parents revealed that upon interrogation, the pupils, who were of either gender, disclosed that, after watching the porn materials, Mshindi would order them to practice the sexual acts on a mentally-ill middle-aged woman, who visited the house daily.

Unconfirmed reports claim that Mshindi has also been luring other students from nearby schools.

Mshindi has allegedly been using sweets, money, sugarcane and pears to lure the pupils into his house.

Mshindi’s victims ranged from pupils of Standard Three to a Form One student.

One of the parents complained that her son, of late, has developed an unusual unruly behaviour.

“He would not write his home work. If I question him, he would respond disrespectfully,” she said.

Lenana Primary School head teacher, Maxmilla Kilwake, said that they came to learn of the issue after one pupil failed to attend school, only for him to be traced to Nakuru Central Police Station having been rescued from a stall near Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, where he had spent the night.

Upon questioning, the pupil spilled the beans; prompting police to launch a manhunt for Mshindi.

According to the suspect’s brother, Mshindi is a night guard at a private house in Milimani Estate, Nakuru. Mshindi’s brother said during the day he (Mshindi) would do casual work.

The suspect’s brother denied having knowledge of what was happening in Mshindi’s house when the pupils visited.

At the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, officers from the Children’s desk of the Kenya Police Service, based at Nakuru Central Police Station, interrogated the affected pupils. Medics too conducted checks on the pupils.

Lenana Primary School head teacher termed the incident as “unfortunate”.

“It was difficult for the school management to know what Mshindi was exposing the children to because no pupil reported the matter to the administration. We hadn’t noticed anything unusual with the pupils,” said the school head, Maxmilla Kilwake.

Nakuru OCPD, Joshua Omukata, has confirmed that the suspect is in police custody; and that investigations into the matter are underway.

Omukata says the suspect will be charged once investigations are complete.

The Chairman of Lenana Primary School Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Aggrey Amani, said it was unbelievable that Mshindi’s neighbours never reported the matter to the police, yet when Mshindi was arrested, they confessed to having knowledge of what had been happening.

Amani termed the suspect “dangerous”, given the trust parents had bestowed on him.

“Some parents entrusted him with the duty of taking their children to school using his boda boda,” said Amani.

Unconfirmed reports claim that the suspect was, in the past, having sex with the mentally-ill woman, before he started luring pupils and students into having sexual intercourse with the woman.

Several children confessed to having been lured into the act after watching pornographic films at Mshindi’s house.

Mshindi, however, denied the claims.

“I am a staunch Christian. I cannot involve other people’s children or myself in the evils I am being accused of,” he said.

Mshindi further alleges that there are people who are bent on soiling his “good” name. He said that there is a sugarcane plantation within his compound and that he generously gives sugarcane to any child, who visits him or passes near his house.

Meanwhile, angered parents held a peaceful demonstration from the Lenana Primary School to Nakuru Central Police Station to pile pressure on the police to hasten investigations into the matter.
