Shock as thugs slaughter cows near owners’ house

Residents in Saba Saba in Muranga County woke up to a rude shock after they recovered carcasses of stolen cattle at a nearby farm along the Kenol – Murang’a road.

According to Simon Wanyoike, the owner of two of the cows, he woke up early to attend to his livestock only to find the cattle missing.

Wanyoike said he immediately alerted his son and formed a search party to look for the missing cows only to be led by neighbours to the farm where the carcasses were discovered.

Another distraught farmer identified as Jane Muthoni and whose cow was also among those slaughtered, said she could not understand how the thugs managed to slaughter the cows only 300 meters from her house with her notice.

Muthoni added that her husband sunk into depression after he received the news as the cow was their only source of livelihood.

The two pleaded with the government to intervene and ban meat vending noting that it has encouraged such incidents including reported cases of donkeys being stolen and slaughtered.

Police at Mukuyu police station have started investigations into the incident.
