Showdown set as 4 to battle it out for Sony Sugar Company MD

Four applicants will on Friday battle it out for the position of Sony Sugar Company Managing Director following the ouster of the previous boss.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the company Board of Management Chairman Owino Likoa confirmed that the interviews are slated for July 5, 2019, in Nairobi.

According to Mr. Likoa, two out of the 4 applicants are current employees of the company working in different capacities.

He, however, declined to disclose their names, only saying the current acting MD James Oluoch is not among the interviewees.

The process of filling the company’s top position comes months after former acting MD Bernard Otieno was sent on compulsory leave following outcry from a section of workers and farmers who accused him of mismanagement.

Mr. Otieno had been holding the position in an interim position for close to a year after expiry of the contract of former MD Jane Pamela.

The interview process comes at a time when the company is riddled with a financial crisis which has seen it go down to its knee.

The company, about a month ago, sent over 300 casual workers to three-month non-paid compulsory leave in a bid to downsize its expenditure.
