Siaya blames low voter registration on IEBC
Leaders from Siaya County are blaming the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the low voter turnout in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The leaders argue that the IEBC has deployed insufficient Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits and that this has negatively affected the daily targets set by the polling body.
Led by former chairman of the defunct Bondo Town Council, Henry Ondeje, the leaders argue that lack of enough BVR kits has created confusion in many polling stations hence the low registration pace.
He called on the electoral body to increase the number of kits if it wants to achieve the set target.
Ondeje alleged that areas like Rift Valley and Central Kenya, are registering good numbers because they were provided with adequate BVR kits.
The former chairman wants the IEBC to equally ensure that other parts of the country, especially Luo Nyanza, are also given enough kits to enhance the voter registration exercise.
Mr Ondeje, who was speaking in Bondo Town, said this was a deliberate attempt by the Jubilee administration and IEBC to rob the opposition of its victory come August 8 when Kenyans go to the ballot.
He now wants the IEBC commissioners who were sworn in on Friday, January 20 to move with speed and address this anomaly.
