Siaya County in Sh123m street lighting project

The County Government of Siaya in collaboration with the national government, through the Kenya Power Company, has started an initiative to light the streets of Siaya, Bondo and Yala Towns.

The project will be actualized at a cost of Sh123 million.

According to Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, the street lighting project will start in April and end in June this year and is aimed at curbing insecurity within the county.

He disclosed that after the completion of the project in the three towns, they would also consider employing the same strategy in other towns such as Ugunja and Ukwala.

The governor, who was speaking to Radio Ramogi, revealed that under the street lighting project all streets that had been identified would be lighted.

He added that in the respective towns, the streetlights would be stretched to cover an extra kilometer from the central business district in either direction to light up feeder roads.

Rasanga observed that the streetlights would also help boost the economies of the respective towns and up the development agenda in the area by helping move Siaya County towards a 24-hour economy.
