Siaya County staffer says MCA planning to kill him

A Siaya County member of staff now says that his life is in danger after allegedly receiving death threats from unknown people.

Siaya County Information and Communication Officer, Michael Watanga, said that he has been receiving death threats through mobile phone from anonymous persons.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Watanga said that on Monday, January 16, a group of armed men trailed his vehicle along the Kisumu – Busia Road.

The officer says he has reported the matter to Ugunja Police Station, recording that on his way to a petrol station, he noticed four saloon cars trailing him, two of which had Ugandan registration number plates, and the men withdrawing guns.

This forced his driver to take a different turn through a narrow path before running into the bushes.

In his statement, Watanga said that he has petitioned the police to question Siaya Member of County Assembly (MCA), Edwin Otieno, since one of his vehicles was among those trailing him.

He links the MCA to the death threats against him, especially after receiving a call from an unknown number, outlining his history with that of the MCA.

In his defense, Otieno denied the allegations stating that he had no reasons whatsoever to eliminate Mr Watanga.

Area OCPD, Samuel Koskei, said they had received the complaints and are carrying out investigations.
