Siaya denies Ksh 52M kitty for Obama

The County Government of Siaya has denied reports that it allocated Ksh 52 million for homecoming preparations for U.S. President Barrack Obama.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, West Gem Member of County Assembly Jared Abayo said the reports were unfounded and were being propagated by persons opposed to the leadership of Governor Cornel Rasanga.

He said that the county had only allocated Ksh 10 million for the same adding that Ksh 42 million was set aside for different development projects and initiatives in the county that will run annually.

“We have four major activities lined up every year. However, they were not informed by President Obama’s visit,” he said.

The activities lined up include; Obama 7s, Lake Kanyaboli mini marathon, tourism and cultural expo and investment conference.

He further said that the Ksh 42 million budget is to be financed through sponsorships by different partner organisations.

“We cannot use extra money to fund unbudgeted for activities. That is why we have opted to finance the four projects through partnerships and endorsements.”
