Siaya Governor Cornel Rasangas bodyguards withdrawn

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has lashed out at police bosses for withdrawing his security detail over his participation in Monday’s anti-IEBC protest in the county.

Governor Rasanga claimed his two bodyguards have been withdrawn without an apparent explanation from the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.

Addressing the press at his home at Segere in Siaya County, Rasanga explained that his bodyguards were recalled to the police headquarters during his visit to Nairobi for the Council of Governors elections on Friday.

He claims that one of his security officers was summoned to the police headquarters on Friday and the other one on Saturday where their guns were withdrawn.

Governor Rasanga linked the withdrawal of his security detail to the recent demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in Siaya.

He accused police spokesman Charles Owino of linking him to the violence witnessed during the protests which led to the death of three people leaving several others injured.

“I have not received official communication from the police on the withdrawal of my security detail. I demand to know why my bodyguards were recalled leaving me vulnerable,” he said.

Rasanga demanded the reinstatement of his security detail saying he should have a hand in picking the officers of his choice.
