Siaya: Group wants an end to sexual violence against children with disabilities

Siaya County Commissioner’s office has been petitioned to help in ending the escalating cases of sexual violence against children with disabilities in the region.

According to the Coordinator of Siaya County Network for Person with Disabilities Mr. Charles Juma, the rate at which girls with disabilities are being molested in the county is alarming.

He stated that it is quite unfortunate that a lot of those cases are often compromised either at the police stations or at the courts.

Mr. Juma pleaded for the intervention of the County Commissioner’s office to ensure culprits and perpetrators of the vice are brought to book whenever they are arrested, and to also facilitate the hearing of such cases to their logical conclusion.

Mr. Juma, who spoke at Siaya County stadium during the Jamhuri Day celebrations, stated that the culprits are people who live within the community and can only be identified and arrested through the help of the local chiefs.

He lamented that the culprits, many who are known are ruining the future of the girls and action needs to taken.
