Siaya leaders accuse Governor Rasanga of favouritism

A section of leaders in Siaya County have accused their governor Cornel Rasanga of sabotaging the efforts of mobilising residents to register as voters in the on-going voter registration exercise in the region.

Aspiring candidates for South East Alego ward in Alego/Usonga Constituency claimed that the governor has chosen to work with selected people and this jeopardises the voter mobilisation exercise across the county.

Led by Mr Michael Odiang’a, the leaders accused the governor of sidelining other political leaders yet the exercise requires a joint effort from everyone for them to reach the target number of registered voters.

Mr Shadrack Sewe lamented that the governor has been giving undue advantage to some political leaders during mobilisation for the on-going mass voter registration and this was discouraging some of them from participating in the exercise.

He has therefore pleaded with him (Governor Rasanga) to reconsider the move and work with all leaders across the county to ensure the success of the registration exercise.

The leaders were speaking at a hotel in Siaya Town, where nominated MCA Mrs Sylvia Migaya and Nicholas Rajula asked the governor and other aspirants to desist from turning the voter registration exercise into a campaign forum.

Rajula said that people should instead come together with the common aim of ensuring success in the on-going voter registration exercise.

When contacted for comment, Governor Rasanga dismissed those claims terming them cheap politics.

He maintained that as a governor he has no preferred candidate in any part of the county, noting that he is ready to work with everybody to ensure the success of not only the on-going voter registration exercise, but ODM party registration as well.
