Siaya: Man, 30, caught red-handed stealing maize at former politicians farm

A 30-year-old man is being held at Bondo Police Station after he was arrested while stealing maize at a former politician’s farm in Wagusu village, Siaya County.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, area Assistant Chief William Oreme said the suspect, James Okumu Kizito, was caught red-handed by members of the public in the middle of the night.

According to Mr. Oreme, a villager heard movements in the maize plantation belonging to former Central Sakwa ward representative George Odero Akama and raised alarm before fellow residents rushed to the farm and found the suspect plucking maize and packing it in sacks.

The villagers then reportedly ‘arrested’ the suspect and called the provincial administration who took him to Bondo Police Station where he is presently being detained.

The administrator revealed that the distance between the suspect’s home in Nyawita and the farm where he went to steal maize is almost 14 kilometers.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday where the three sacks of maize he was nabbed with as well as his motorcycle will also be presented.
