Siaya: Man commits suicide in River Yala

Authorities in collaboration with villagers at Nyawita sub-location in Bondo sub-county, Siaya County are in search of a body of a man who drowned in River Yala on Sunday evening.

The middle aged man, who is yet to be identified, is said to have jumped into the river near Got Winyo Bridge.

According to the Assistant Chief  Nyawita sub-location, Mr. Ayub Ogola, the man was spotted while jumping into the lake, by a villager who reported the matter to the police shortly after.

Mr. Ogola said he immediately mobilized members of the public to assist in searching for the body.

According to the chief, the man was reported to have been looking disturbed as he removed his shoes at the river bank before jumping into the water.

The administrator said a search was conducted for the better part of Sunday evening in vain before they resumed the operation on Monday morning.

He also appealed to members of the public  aware of the man’s identity or his relatives to come out as they only got the man’s shoes which were left at the river bank.
