Siaya MCAs Fight Over Cash

The fight erupted after East Yimbo ward Representative Elisha Okuku allegedly asked for his cash from his colleague Fred Ouda, the Ward Representative of Central Gem.

Siaya County Speaker George Okode said that the members violated the standing orders of the assembly and were hence suspended for three sittings

Okode added that they will not be eligible to receive their allowances and will not appear near the County Assembly’s premises.

The Speaker stated that County Assembly members should not take their privileges for granted and indulge in unacceptable behavior just because they enjoy some privileges.

He added that the matter will be presented to the Committee of Powers and Privileges of the Assembly to be determined as per the law.

The two will now appear before the committee accompanied with their lawyers and evidence if any.

Okode warned members of the County Assembly that such acts could make them lose their seats come the next general election.

He emphasized the need for members to behave with decorum rather than turning the assembly into a battle field
