Siaya ODM officials deny laxity claims

Siaya County ODM officials have differed with the region’s deputy governor, Wilson Ouma Onyango, over claims that they are doing little to strengthen the party in the area, saying they are doing their best.

Led by Siaya County ODM secretary, Eng Carey Orege, the officials condemned the recent remarks by Mr Ouma Onyango that they were sleeping on their job.

On June 2, 2016, the deputy governor stated that the face of ODM party had started to wane in the region due to the officials’ laxity in discharging their duties.

Orege, however, dismissed the allegations as baseless, pointing that they have been able to spearhead a lot of party missions, including the current anti-IEBC demonstrations and the recent party campaigns in the just concluded West Uyoma ward by-elections, among others.

On his part, Gem sub-branch ODM secretary, Douglas Otiato, appealed to all the county officials to shun unmerited criticism and work collaboratively to strengthen the party.

The leaders who were speaking during their executive committee meeting in Siaya Town challenged the deputy governor to mention some of the achievements that he has made during his time as the party’s secretary in the county other than criticising those who are currently in office.
