Siaya police probe assault allegations against MP Samuel Atandi

Police in Siaya County are investigating an incident where Alego-Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi is accused of physically assaulting a government officer last week.

The legislator is alleged to have stormed the County Director of Education’s office while in company of some youth but was told by the officer present, Modester Anyuor, that the Director was not around.

Mr. Atandi then reportedly asked for the Director’s phone number and, when Ms. Anyuor was adamant to give it, he allegedly slapped her on the face.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Siaya County Police Commander Ambrose Mwawaka confirmed that Ms. Anyuor had already recorded a statement at the Siaya Police Station and that investigations are underway.

The police boss also stated that they are yet to arrest the MP to record his statement as well, adding that he (Mr. Atandi) will be arraigned and charged upon conclusion of investigations.

Mr. Atandi, on his part however, dismissed the claims citing them as ill-founded allegations being peddled by his political opponents.

The legislator was also on the spotlight in late December when he was accused of sending ‘goons’ to attack Nominated MCA Winnie Otieno while on her way from an end of year party on the outskirts of Siaya Town.
