Siaya ready to handle food shortage Rasanga

The County Government of Siaya says it will now buy and store food supplies in its local cereal stores as a way of averting a looming food shortage following the prolonged drought that has been witnessed in the region.

According to Siaya Governor, Cornel Rasanga, the county government has set aside some funds and will set some more from the supplementary budget to buy maize from Rift Valley to cushion the residents from a possible food crisis.

Governor Rasanga has, however, affirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring success of the Lower-Nzoia Irrigation Scheme which is a county government initiative exuding confidence that the county will be food sufficient once the project begins operations.

Rasanga, who was addressing the media on the State of the County on Thursday, November 17, noted that the county has made great steps in terms of development over the last four years.
