Siaya: Woman arrested for not wearing face mask claims she was raped by police officer

A 33-year-old woman in Siaya County is crying for justice claiming she was raped by an officer attached to Sega Police Station.

The woman alleges that she was raped by the officer inside the cells on Monday morning after she was arrested for violating COVID-19 rules while on her way to the shop.

She told Citizen Digital that she was arrested for failing to wear a face mask and, upon being locked up, the said officer approached and demanded to have sexual intercourse with her.

The woman says she tried to resist but the officer locked the door and threatened to shoot her if she dared make any noise, then went on to repeatedly rape her before later releasing her.

The woman further added that she went straight to the nearby hospital where she sought treatment before later reporting the matter.

All the officers attached to Sega Police station were on Wednesday paraded at Ukwala Police Station where the woman positively identified the said officer.

The woman, who is now crying for justice, stated that she was however dismissed on claims that she picked the officer who was on duty on the fateful day and not exactly the officer who raped her.

Citizen Digital sought clarification on the case from Ugenya sub-county Police Commander Willy Simba who referred us to the County Police Commander Francis Kooli who neither picked calls nor responded to text messages regarding that matter.O
