Siaya women to strip if police brutality continues

A section of women from Siaya County have threatened to strip to protest the police brutality witnessed during the anti-IEBC protests across the country.

Led by ODM Gem sub-branch women leader, Esther Omondi, the women condemned the shooting and killings by police during the anti-IEBC protests, warning that this should stop forthwith failure to which they will strip.

The women, referring to Monday’s killing in Kisumu, appealed to the government to control police officers, failure to which they will come on the streets naked to demonstrate their anger.

“Given that anti-IEBC demonstrations are always peaceful, the police must desist from their usual habit of provoking protesters,” said Ms Omondi.

The women also urged the police to act in a humane way, arguing that with the current trend of confrontations, a lot of productive youth will be killed and that is likely to affect the future of the nation.

Their sentiments were echoed by ODM Gem sub-branch Secretary, Douglas Otiato who urged the national government to warn police officers against misusing their firearms.

“Whereas they are adamant that CORD must follow the law in its pursuit for the disbandment of IEBC, the police must also follow the law by ensuring they give the protesters proper security during demonstrations but not to use excessive force against them,” pointed Otiato.
