Simon Warunge leads detectives to where murder weapons were disposed

Simon Warunge, the prime suspect in the killings of his family members, on Saturday led detectives to the spot where the murder weapons were disposed.

The 22-year-old took the sleuths to Mai Mahiu where they discovered the weapons and other key exhibits inside a pit latrine.

“Homicide Detectives have made a major breakthrough in unraveling the puzzle surrounding the Kiambu killings, that left 5 people dead a few days ago,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said on Twitter.

The DCI said the items will be crucial in placing the author of the heinous crime at the centre of the killings.

The recovered items are to be subjected to further forensic analysis at the DCI Forensic Lab to provide a watertight case for the prosecution once presented in court.

Details have emerged on how assailants made their way into the home of U.S-based businessman Nicholas Njoroge Warunge and murdered everyone they found.

Homicide detectives from the DCI headquarters believe there were at least five attackers at the Karura Ka Murimu home.

According to the investigators, the absence of any form of forced entry or exit in the razor wire that surrounds the compound shows the killers were well known to the family.

It is believed that they made their way into the house through the rear door, where they found Anne Njoroge, the wife of slain businessman Nicholas Njoroge Warunge, and hacked her to death before slitting her throat.

The commotion in the kitchen drew the attention of the second victim, Maxwell Njenga, Warunge’s 13-year-old nephew, who was accosted along the corridor; he suffered deep cuts on the head and a slit throat.

In his bedroom at the time was Warunge’s son, Christian Njenga, who detectives say was killed and his throat slit on his bed; the 13-year-old celebrated his birthday on December 26, 2020.

Investigators believe that Warunge was in the master bedroom upstairs at the time of the attack, he made his way to the balcony and jumped down where they caught up with him and stabbed him several times and left him for the dead.

While no one knows who they are, they left behind crucial leads chasing after the defenseless Warunge; bare foot prints from the rear door all the way to the spot Warunge is believed to have been stabbed, and all the way back, belong to at least two people.
