Sister Irene Nyaatha shrine to cost Ksh 3 million

The Catholic Church will construct a Ksh 3 Million shrine at Gikondi Parish where Blessed Sister Irene Stefani Nyaatha lived.

Speaking at Gikondi Catholic Church, the Postulator of the Cause of Beatification in Kenya, Fr. Peter Githinji, who was accompanied by other priests, said the shrine will be completed in the next two months.

Fr. Githenji said the shrine will be open to believers of all doctrines and will serve as a symbol of humility and dedication of Christianity that Irene portrayed.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Monday and will be presided over by Archbishop Peter Kairu and Consolata Missionaries.

Catholic believers from all corners of the world are expected to attend the ceremony.

Sister Nyaatha was declared a Blessed after the Beatification ceremony that took place in May last year.

It  was the first beatification ceremony to happen in Kenya and Africa..

Cardinal Polycarp Pengo delivered the letter declaring Sister Stefani among the Blessed.

The proclamation was read in Latin by Cardinal Pengo and later translated to English by Cardinal John Njue.

The Catholic Church will every year celebrate blessed Irene Stefani’s feast on 31st October the day she died and is believed to have been born into heaven.

Blessed Sister Irene Stefani Nyaatha was 39 when she died in 1930.
