Six arrested in illegal brewery with counterfeit alcohol
Six people were arrested at an illegal brewery suspected of producing second generation liquor in Kiambu County on Tuesday, Kiambu Deputy Commissioner Muthama Mwenda has confirmed.
Mr Muthama, who was in the company of Ruiru Director of Criminal Investigations in the area, David Chebil, said the six were nabbed at Mugutha Village in Juja Sub County at a house that had distillery machinery.
According to Mwenda, the brands the suspects were allegedly manufacturing are counterfeits, adding that it was a criminal offense.
He also said that a suspect identified as Mirriam Wanja, escaped.
“The legitimate company that manufactures these brand are tax payers but this suspect was stomaching millions at the expense of the licensed company. It is just a matter of time and the law will catch up with the criminal and face the full force of the law,” said Mwenda.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mwenda said that the suspect had put lives of many Kenyans in danger since the liquor she allegedly manufactured was not up to the standards.
