Six dead, 24 injured in collapsed Kisii building as rescue operation ends

Six people have been confirmed dead while 24 others injured as emergency rescue teams ended their operations in the rubble of the four-story building that collapsed yesterday morning in Kisii town.

According to the Deputy Director National Disaster Management Unit, Pius Masai, all the 30 people who were in the ill-fated building have been accounted for.

The Red Cross Society has confirmed that the unaccounted person, Charles Mokaya, is safe and sound while the injured are now recuperating in different hospitals within Kisii County.

On the different media reports about the number of the dead, it was revealed that one body had been mixed up with the building victims.

The building, which was still under construction collapsed at around 8:30am with rescue teams saying heavy rains in the area hampering the process.
