Six dead, two injured in Elgeyo Marakwet cattle rustling incident
At least six people are were killed and two others injured following a cattle rustling incident at Murkutwo Village in Marakwet East, Elgeyo Marakwet County on Monday night.
Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner Mr Fredric Ndambuki said that the government has resolved to use force to end the cattle rustling menace between members of the Pokot community and Marakwet community, adding that leaders and professionals in this region are allegedly financing the vice.
County Administration Police Commander Sharrif Hussein Abdallah also revealed that North Rift and Elgeyo Marakwet regions have 150,000 and 1500 illegal guns respectively.
On his part, KNUT executive secretary Marakwet branch, Mr John Cheberi, urged the government to consider relocating Form IV and Standard eight candidates in the region to the escarpment regions for them to sit their exams in peace.
“Teachers have been instructed not to risk their lives by supervising the KCSE and KCPE examinations in Elgeyo Marakwet,” he added
