Six G4S staff detained over Ksh.72 million heist in Nairobi

Six G4S employees were on Friday arraigned over links to the stolen Ksh.72 million at the Standard Chartered Bank ATM in Nairobi West on Thursday.

The court further allowed an application by prosecution to have them detained for 7-days at Lang’ata police station to allow police complete their investigations.

Earlier, 13 cash boxes were recovered empty in Thogoto Forest, Kiambu.

Sources however said the Ksh.72 million which was stolen by three criminals posing as police officers on escort on Thursday is still missing.

A report from Kikuyu Police Station said a man tipped off police after he spotted broken cash boxes and bags from different banks.

On reaching the scene, they discovered empty bags from Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Barclays Bank.

On Thursday, criminals posing as police officers on escort robbed G4S personnel of Ksh.72 million in Nairobi West.

Sources reveal that the team had collected the cash from G4S headquarters on Witu Road with three men who appeared to be police officers.

When they arrived at the Standard Chartered Bank ATM in Nairobi West, the G4S team called their headquarters for the password to reload cash into the machine.

It was then that the gangsters turned on them, confiscated their phones before they offloaded the cash onto a vehicle and fled.
