Six guns surrendered in ongoing crackdown in Transmara

The government has so far recovered six firearms and 16 rounds of ammunition in the ongoing disarmament operation in Transmara area of Narok County.

The firearms were paraded at Moita chief’s office in Transmara with Deputy County Commissioner Hassan Noor commending the efforts by the local elders to persuade firearm bearers to surrender them.

Among those recovered is an M16 rifle, one G3 and 4 AK47 assault rifles, were handed to government officials as Noor called for the locals to also surrender bows and arrows.

“Even those other weapons, bows and arrows, surrender them to us so that we can believe you are ready for peace in Transmara,” said the commissioner.

The locals who decried the 4pm to 7am curfew imposed on the conflict stricken area were told they will have to first satisfy authorities that all illegal firearms have been surrendered.

The recent stringent orders in the area were occasioned by the long standing conflict between Siria and Irruasin Kishu clans that has lasted years on end.
