Six, including Kisii County employees arrested in hotel over social media posts

Police in Kisii are holding six suspects among them two Kisii County employees who are accused of using social media to incite violence.

The six were arrested at a hotel in Kisii town on Wednesday evening, February 7.

Kisii OCPD Francis Nguli confirmed the arrests, adding that police are pursuing one more suspect who is still at large.

Nguli said police had been tracking the suspects’ social media posts, which he said have been inciting members of the public.

The OCPD, who declined to divulge more on the nature of the incitement, said the suspects are being interrogated and will be arraigned in court to face charges of incitement once investigations are completed.

The OCPD cautioned social media users against using the platform to abuse others and incite the public saying legal action will be taken against them irrespective of their social status.

He called on members of the public to be responsible in using social media platforms adding that abuse of such is an offence punishable by law.
