Six injured after matatu transporting body overturns in Homa Bay

Six people on Saturday night sustained minor injuries after a matatu transporting a body was involved in an accident at Chabera trading centre on the Oyugi-Sondu road in Rachuonyo, Homa Bay County.

The accident occurred at around 8p.m as the vehicle belonging to NMOA Sacco was headed to Nyakach from Nairobi with 32 passengers on board.

According to Peter Otieno, one of the passengers who survived the accident, the vehicle overturned at Chabera area as the driver attempted to avoid a hole on the road.

Confirming the incident, Rachuonyo East sub-county Police Commander Charles Barasa said road construction is presently ongoing where the minibus overturned with all passengers on board.

The police boss added that the six injured passengers were rushed to Saokon Medical Clinic within Chabera area for treatment.

He further added that the other passengers who escaped unhurt proceeded with the journey to Nyakach after the body was transferred to another vehicle.

The minibus was towed to Othoro Police Station by traffic police officers who were on scene for inspection.
